It's August and I'm ready to roll!  I have a bunch of stuff to update on, and the majority of it needs to go in my other blog (thisiskellyraeineurope.blogspot.com).  I'll try to get to that today.  I've been home a little over a week now and let me tell you, my time in Europe was amazing.  I won't say too much, but I will promise to update the blog later.

I printed out the Blogilates workout calendar for this month and I did the workout that I thought was supposed to be for today but was actually for last week.  That's okay though because I still got a really good workout.  I feel really pumped.  I'm a little late getting started on working out, but I don't care that much.  I have three weeks left in this month, and I think I will get a good workout either way.  I just have to keep pushing.

I ended up skipping all the five minute workouts that I had planned.  However, due to the millions of stairs we climbed (St. Paul's has 528 steps), I got my calves nice and toned and I actually lost five pounds while I was over there.  My new goal is to keep those five pounds off, if possible, and to continue working out and eating well.  The eating well part is still a challenge because I have a limited amount of money and my dad keeps using the food I buy to make other meals.

Now that I'm starting my new job today, I will be able to get the food that I want and hopefully cook the meals I want/need to work on my body without interference.  Yes, I have a job.  I just got hired at Bed, Bath & Beyond and I couldn't be more excited.  No, it's not my dream job, but it's a job and I will soon have an income.  I can still look for other work that fits my field if I feel the need to.  I'm just glad I found something when I got back.  I thought I would have to search for a few more weeks before I found something.  Honestly, I'm okay with settling for this.  My plan is to be here for a year while I work on preparing for graduate school.

So far, this week is going great.  I have high hopes for August.

Another five minute workout

Motivational Quote: "Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit." - Vince Lombardi

Workout Time: 5:00

I love these five minute workouts!  They are so much fun and so quick.  Basically, it means that I have no excuse whatsoever to not workout.  Ever.  I mean, five minutes is nothing.  While it doesn't give me the whole satisfaction of burning 500 plus calories, I still burn some calories and I get a little bit of a sweat too.  I think these workouts are more attainable and more approachable than something like a twenty minute workout video online.  Plus, I can do them just about anywhere.  I don't need shoes or a mat, which is nice for travel or if I decide to do them before the shower.

The best part about these ones is that two workouts equals about five minutes.  That means I can mix and match, or just repeat the same one again.  Like I mentioned yesterday, it gives some variety, and I think some control over the workout.  I don't know about everyone else, but I am a control freak.  I like being able to know how long my workout is and being able to plan it into my day.  These short workouts are perfect.  Also, I think, if I wanted, I can add other workouts that I know on there and it would be just fine.  This morning, I did the first two workouts.  I don't know if I did the tricep dips right, but we'll see tomorrow.

I'm excited to use these for the next two weeks.  I know they will give me an extra boost of energy and confidence.  Both of which are great to have.

Yesterday, I saw my stomach, from far away, in one of the many mirrors in our house and I realized that it doesn't look as bad as I think it does.  Of course, I wasn't looking at it up close, but regardless, I didn't dislike what I saw.  For the first time in a while I didn't dislike my image in the mirror.  I don't want people to get the idea that I hate they way I look, but we all have those days where we feel fat and gross and ugly.  Because I haven't been working out every day for an hour or so, I've been feeling that way.  I keep making excuses why I can't do it just now, but they're just excuses.  I discovered the MTV show Girl Code and it's awesome and so wonderful for ladies.  It's great to have a show out there that gives advice for girls, though some of it isn't all appropriate.  But, it was fun to watch and here that these beautiful women have issues too.

Alright, time for me to get on with my day.  And, incase anyone does read this, you are beautiful.  I don't care if you're a man or a woman, you are beautiful.  The end.

Five minute workout

Motivational Quote: "Goals are dreams with deadlines." - Diana Scharf Hunt

Workout Time: 5:00

This workout was awesome. I did it while my shower warmed up and when I was done, I was sweating and ready to go. I felt like I was in a race with the time because I wanted to get all the sets in during the five minute time limit. So, that made it kind of fun.

I repeated the workout twice.

I'm sore from yesterday, so I know my fifteen minute workout was successful. I had hoped my core would be sore, but it's only my arms. That's okay. I'm just glad something is sore so I know it's working.

Tomorrow, I'm trying another workout. I'll post that picture when I update as well.

I have to say, these are kind of fun. They're quick and easy, but not too easy, and they really get the job done. Looks at me, acting like I'm writing a review. Like I'm a pro and everything.

5-4-3-2-1 Workout

Motivational Quote: "If you fail to prepare, you're prepared to fail." - Mark Spitz

I have been on the hunt for short workouts to do while I'm overseas.  I won't be able to run and I know I won't have the time (or the desire) to do the workouts on the calendar.  I'm not bringing my computer with me, and I really don't want to watch workout videos on my phone.

To Pinterest I went, and I found a few workouts that I can do while the shower is warming up or during my nightly routine.  The one I did today is called the 5-4-3-2-1 workout.  I did pretty much all the workouts, except for the tricep dip.  That was basically impossible for my lack of upper-arm strength, so I did a minute of pushups and substituted two minutes of candlestick dippers, one minute each side.

It definitely got my heart racing and it was a lot harder than I expected, which is good.  It takes fifteen minutes to complete, so I probably won't do it while I'm travelling.  However, it's a nice workout for busy days or when I'm watching TV and need something to do for a while.

I doubt I'll blog much on this blog while I'm over there, but if I find that I need to/want to, I will.  I'll mostly blog on my other one: thisiskellyraeineurope.blogspot.com.  Check it out if you want.

I have been kind of lazy lately.  I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that we don't have a lot of healthy food in the house or if I just don't want to.  I haven't done any workouts on the July calendar, but that's because the first week I was at my cabin, this week I'm packing, and the next two weeks I'll be overseas.  I find no point in printing it out just for a week.  It's a waste of paper and my time.  Instead, I had hoped to run in the morning, but that didn't workout.  Oh well.  At least I'm still moving and trying to find something to keep me active.  I think that's the most I can ask for.

I had this great image of me working out out and eating healthy every day, and it can still happen, but I have to push myself.  It's a hard thing to do when my day isn't as full as I'm used to.  When I get back, I should be busier.  I've declared August the month I find a job, the month I begin editing a professor's manuscript for some extra money, the month I prepare for the GRE, the month I begin drafting my applications for grad school and my sample papers, and the month one of my best friends gets married (though I didn't actually declare that one).  So, with all that happening, I should be pretty motivated and energized to workout.  Let's hope so.  If not, someone please yell at me through text, comment, or Facebook to get off my ass and do something.  Seriously.

Tomorrow, I plan on posting a five minute workout, so maybe I'll find something that will fit for my travels.

Running: Day 26

It's been about a week since I ran, and I think the last time I ran was at the cabin. I could be wrong and I probably am. It was a great run, but boy was it hard. I forget sometimes how hard it is to jump back into something that I haven't done for a while.

I'm running this whole week. That's the plan anyway. I'm at the cabin for my brother's birthday week and for the Fourth. It's crazy hot here. But, we're keeping the cabin pretty cool. No chance of dying of a heat stroke with a lake near by.

I love running at the cabin. It's gorgeous. The air is cleaner and crisper. It's amazing. I know what a runner's high is like here. I can't wait for tomorrow morning so I can run again.

Here is me after my run. Love that sunshine. It helps work up a sweat.

The lake was beautiful yesterday and today, so my dad and I went kayaking. It was a great upper body workout. I feel it in my shoulders already.

The plan for today is read, swim, and tan. Great itinerary, right?

Cabin Workout!

Motivational Quote: "This ability to conquer oneself is no doubt the most precious of all things sports bestows." - Olga Korbut

Well, I've had a fairly lazy week. I got hooked on Doctor Who and I will blame my lack of exercise on that. But, mostly, we have no food in our house and as much as I'd love to go shopping, I have to save my money. I also cannot go shopping just for myself anymore. If I were to get food, someone in the household would use it. That means I'd have to buy more.

I haven't been keeping up on eating healthy and I feel that's been a huge impact on my exercising. I'm in a rut right now. Next week, I hope to run and focus on running. I will also need to make a grocery list and figure out how to get everyone on board with it.

I've said it many times before, but I know that working out is a process. I was doing really great in the beginning of the month and when the middle came, everything went downhill. It's hard to keep up with it sometimes, but I'm trying and I think that's all I can ask for at this point.

Part of the reason I haven't been keeping up with workout calendar is that our Internet has been sucking the past week. Doctor Who has been a factor. And, I also have been wanting to sleep in. It's nice to wake up at 7:30 instead of 5:00. But, if I want to get fit I have to make those initial sacrifices. I'm never motivated to workout in the evening, so I have to do it in the morning. That's just how it works.

This morning was the first time I've done the cabin workout at the cabin. It went really well. I skipped a few exercises because, well, I didn't want to do them. But, overall, it was a success.

Because a lot of people will be up here next week, I'm just going to run and record it. They won't be here until next Wednesday or Thursday, so I might squeeze in the cabin workout after my run.

I need to get my motivation back so I can continue to workout and eat clean. Once we have good food in the house, I know I will be better at exercising.

Okay, I've exhausted that topic for now. In a few weeks, I will be leaving for Europe. I won't be exercising, so I won't be posting, but I am starting another blog for the trip. If anyone wants to follow it, the link is thisiskellyraeineurope.blogspot.com. I'll post a few before I leave and then update along the way. It should be super fun and I can't wait to get over there.

Cabin pictures!

Here is a picture of my cabin workout, though I've updated it a bit since. But, you get the picture. Ha. See what I did there?

These are views from my morning run.

It was kind of hard to beat this view. Probably one of the best runs I've ever done and the scenery is definitely part of it.
